Back by popular demand, New Hampton School will host its third consecutive Golf Tournament on Monday, September 23rd. This event has been a tremendous hit for golf enthusiasts and amateurs alike, and we invite parents and alumni to join us once again for a great day this fall.
Building a tradition
While golf tournaments are not new to our school, the tradition was reinstated in the fall of 2017 as Joe Williams entered his second year as our Head of School. It was a top event suggestion among alumni and parents, so a committee formed and work began. Supported by Former Director of Alumni & Parent Relations Cindy Buck and School Events Manager Stacey Wills, the planning and strategy of the event drew together quickly. The tournament offers a way to enjoy networking and sportsmanship together, while also supporting the fundraising initiatives of the school.
Location, location
Choosing the location for the event was a crucial piece of the puzzle. New Hampton School has alumni and parents in numerous countries, and all across the United States. However, a large concentration remains in the greater New England area. With easy accessibility to Boston, The Golf Club at Turner Hill in Ipswich, Massachusetts quickly rose to the top. Known for its pristine course, facilities, and the sense of being an escape from the bustling North Shore and greater bay area, the Golf Club at Turner Hill played host to more than twenty foursomes for that first event.
Stacey Wills, who focused on logistics and sponsorships for the tournaments, explains, “When choosing a location, we wanted to find the ‘sweet spot’ both for participants and sponsors. Not being a golfer, those few weeks before we opened registration had me holding my breath. With a lot of hard work on the part of our fantastic committee, parents and alumni joined together to play a great day of golf side by side with our Head of School, faculty members, and team coaches. Watching those golf carts launch from the clubhouse to the first tee each year is exciting, especially knowing that we are all there for a common purpose. With the success of the first event, we knew immediately that we’d want to return to Turner Hill the next fall.”
