Over the month of April, New Hampton School took time at each school meeting to recognize students from different facets of the community both in academics and athletics. Please join us in congratulating these February/March Students of the Month for all of their contributions to our school.
Student of the Month – Marcus Chan
Writer of the Month – Talia Shirley
Truly successful creative writing achieves the impossible. It reaches into the multidimensional, ineffable realm of the imagination and recreates it in language on the flat page. Talia Shirley’s story, “The Life and Times of Roxie and the Conspiracy Theorist”, is remarkable for the depth and complexity of the imaginative world it constructs for the reader. Her story gives life not only to empathetic characters, but characters within characters! For a story that demonstrates impressive talent and ambition, we are pleased to award Talia Shirley Writer of the Month.
Male Athlete of the Month – Men’s Varsity A Basketball Team
This group of young men won New Hampton School’s first men’s basketball title in 18 years. When they returned from February long weekend, they gave up all forms of social media as they prepared for the final stretch of the season. They played with tremendous heart and for one another. They brought an infectious energy to practice every day and committed to taking their game prep and recovery very seriously in their pursuit of a championship. Congrats on the amazing year!
Female Athletes of the Month – Maddie Kilfoyle & Taze Thompson
Taze Thompson
Taze ’20, of the women’s hockey team, was instrumental in helping the Huskies make the final push towards the NEPSAC playoffs in February. She displayed amazing leadership by keeping her team focused and energized while facing some tough competition in the month of February. Her ability to make her teammates better and lift the overall energy on the ice makes her stand out as she often pumping her teammates up with some choice words or breaking up a zone entry with an intense backcheck. For her efforts, Taze was also recognized as the NEPSAC Small School player of the year! Congrats, Taze!
Maddie Kilfoyle
Maddie ’20 has been part of the women’s basketball program for four years. As a senior captain, she showed a tremendous amount of commitment, hard work, and leadership throughout the entire year. Maddie consistently gave her very best. From the first practice to the final game, there was never a time she didn’t give it her all. She played a huge role in our team and led the Huskies to many victories. Maddie was also selected as a 2020 Lakes Region All-Star. Congrats, Maddie!
