Galletly Gallery will host its first show of the new year, Juxtaposed by Cilla Sheehan and Carole Groenke, opening on Friday, September 7.
Juxtaposed, an exhibition of new work by Cilla Sheehan and Carole Groenke, will be on display in New Hampton School’s Galletly Gallery from August 28 – October 5, 2018. The public is cordially invited to a reception for the artists on Friday, September 7, from 5:30 – 7:00 pm.
Cilla Sheehan is a self-taught New Hampshire artist who has been working in mixed-media for the past fifteen years. She has shown her work in juried and open shows throughout the Northeast. Cilla has been a Women’s Caucus for Art/NH member for the past eight years and served on their board of directors for three years.
Sheehan states “In my work I like to combine interesting elements from many different past lives in new and unique ways. I particularly like using old objects with patinas that show their age. I find these pieces at yard sales, at the dump, in other people’s trash or discarded along city streets. Even broken, these found objects often have a grace and beauty that many newer pieces lack. When they are arranged in new ways they tell stories that differ from their origins. It is also the ultimate phase in recycling.”
Carole Greonke is also works in mixed media. “In my mind’s eye a composition will often present as a specific image – collage, painting, or monotype; or, as in this case, a series of paintings based on my own photographs. Of particular interest to me in any work is how disparate objects can at times seem similar in form or perceived movement. I find this, and other applications of juxtaposition in form or function, inspiring. Inspiration often comes from topical events as well, and of late I find my work has started to take on a political or environmental tone.”
Carole has been a member of the Women’s Caucus for Art/NH since 2010, serving on the WCA/NH Exhibitions Committee, and has shown extensively in WCA/NH exhibits.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. The Galletly Gallery is located on the second floor of New Hampton School’s Moore Center. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to noon.
