New Hampton School has celebrated a strong and unique basketball tradition. Each year, March brings pride and excitement as we cheer on a number of alumni in post-season tournaments including NCAA March Madness. Regardless of the level of each tournament, we watch players and coaches represent New Hampton Huskies in the highest regard, modeling the leadership and sportsmanship that we continue to instill in our student-athletes today.

2018 NCAA March Madness Coaches & Athletes

In this year’s NCAA tournament, eight former Huskies represent the school. Head Coach Wes Miller ’02, Associate Head Coach Mike Roberts ’00, and athlete Malik Massey ’16 lead University of North Carolina Greensboro in their first-round matchup as the 13th seed against 5th seeded Gonzaga University.

Ed Cooley ’89, Head Coach at Providence College, opens in the tournament as the 10th seed against the 7th seed Texas A+M Aggies. Cuonzo Martin ’91, in his first year as the Head Coach at the University of Missouri, has lead the Tigers to an 8th seed playing 9th seed Florida State.

Recent graduates Walker Miller ’17 (33 above) and Kimani Lawrence ’17 (30 above) will compete in the NCAA tournament games.

Recent graduates, Walker Miller ’17, a freshman at the University of North Carolina, will play Lipscomb University as the 2nd seed, and Kimani Lawrence ’17 and the Arizona State University Sun Devils open up the tournament as the 11th seed in a game versus fellow 11th seed Syracuse University.

Max Rothschild ’16 represents the University of Pennsylvania and New Hampton School in this year’s tournament.

Penn Forward Maxwell Rothschild ’16 will lead the Quakers in an upset bid against 1st seeded Kansas. To tune in and support the Huskies in the NCAA Tournament, see the game listings and times below.

Last but not least, red-shirt freshman Becca Ripley ’17 and her 8th seeded Miami Hurricanes will face off against the 9th seeded Quinnipiac Bobcats in the first round of the Women’s NCAA Tournament on Saturday, March 17th (television schedule to be determined).

UNC-Greensboro vs. Gonzaga University – March 15th, 1:30 ET, TNT
University of Pennsylvania vs. Kansas University – March 15th, 2:00 ET, TBS
Providence College vs. Texas A+M University – March 16th, 12:15 ET, CBS
University of North Carolina vs. Lipscomb University – March 16th, 2:45 ET, CBS
University of Missouri vs. Florida State – March 16th, 9:50 ET, TBS

More information is available about New Hampton School’s basketball program and alumni in athletics on the school website. Led by Coach Nick Whitmore, this year’s Huskies advanced to the final round of their NEPSAC AAA league championship.
