New Hampton School is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Gale as the Men’s Varsity A Basketball Coach for the 2019-2020 academic year. Andrew follows in the footsteps of Nick Whitmore, who has led the team for the previous three years and recently accepted a position at the Asheville School in Asheville, North Carolina. Since Whitmore’s appointment, Gale has worked alongside him as one of two assistant coaches. In both his role as a faculty member and as a coach, Gale exhibits the values of New Hampton School, serving as a quintessential role-model, advisor, and coach to his students, and he is eager to step into this new role.

“Andrew has been an essential colleague in coaching this team over the past several years. He is thoughtful, perceptive and very in tune with the needs of the team and our players. I am confident that he is well poised to take over the head coaching position, and I know that our student-athletes will be excited to work with him in this new role,” says Whitmore.

Key strengths

Gale arrived at New Hampton School in the fall of 2016 and has served as a math teacher and the Men’s Varsity A Assistant Coach since his arrival. Previously, he worked at the University of Vermont for four years; first as the lead student manager and then as the Graduate Assistant Coach for the Men’s Basketball Team. During his time at UVM, the Catamounts won an America East Championship, had the longest winning streak in the country during the 2016-2017 Season, went undefeated in the America East Conference, and earned four postseason bids; one to the NCAA Tournament, one to the NIT and two to the CBI. While completing his graduate work, he served as an Academic Advisor by helping players manage their coursework while competing at the Division I level.

“For two years I have been impressed by Andrew’s work ethic and leadership with our basketball team, in addition to serving as an exceptional math teacher, house parent, and advisor. Andrew has worked seamlessly alongside Nick Whitmore to continue the legacy of our Men’s Basketball Program and develop each athlete to a higher level, all the while helping them advance their skills as teammates, athletes, and leaders,” states Director of Athletics Jamie Arsenault. “I am thrilled to welcome Andrew into this role and watch him lead our program forward at an exciting time in our school’s history.”

Andrew was born and raised in Williston, Vermont. He is a graduate of the University of Vermont with a bachelor’s degree in Business and a master’s in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.
